Information Design - Project 1

Part 01: Infographic Poster

Instructions

1. Choose 1 infographic poster reference from Internet (Please consult before proceed)

2. Redesign the poster into A4 size. Sketch the idea and process

3. Redesign and simplify the poster based on visual hierarchy & typography

4. Simplify the poster's design based on color, shape & pattern

5. Attach your final poster on E-Portfolio with explanation and reflective writing

Chosen Poster

After deciding between a few posters, I proceeded with this infographic poster

Digitisation process

COLOR

I chose a color scheme dominated by blue and teal because they effectively convey the purity and tranquility of the ocean while also symbolizing ecological protection. I want these soft and harmonious tones to help viewers feel the beauty and fragility of the sea, evoking a sense of connection to ocean conservation. The contrast between dark text and a light background enhances readability, while the use of white accents and bubble elements not only adds vibrancy but also reinforces the fluidity of water, making the overall design more immersive.

Font

I chose the Berlin Sans FB Demi font because its rounded lines and smooth edges create a friendly and approachable visual feel, echoing the fluidity of the ocean. At the same time, its warm and lively characteristics help convey a sense of care and protection for the ocean, allowing viewers to emotionally connect with the message and enhancing the impact of the environmental advocacy.

Part 02: Animated Infographic Poster

I want to make this infographic more dynamic and engaging rather than just a static poster. That’s why I’ve added some animation effects to enhance the sense of immersion and help viewers experience the ocean environment more vividly. First, I animated the bubbles—those near the whale will continuously float upward, simulating the natural movement of bubbles underwater, while the ones near the shark will also rise slowly, creating a deeper, more realistic ocean atmosphere. Additionally, I made the waves at the bottom move from left to right, generating a natural flowing motion that makes the scene feel more alive, as if the ocean is gently shifting. Through these dynamic elements, I hope to bring more expressiveness to the infographic, allowing viewers to visually experience the movement and vitality of the sea. Ultimately, I want to help people better understand the threats whales face and inspire them to take action in protecting these gentle giants of the ocean.

REFLECTION

In this exercise, the animated infographic poster was the most challenging part for me, especially in conveying the theme of ocean protection. I needed to ensure that the information was clear and easy to understand while using animation to engage the audience. Unlike static design, animation requires careful consideration of timing, transitions, and visual flow, which was a new challenge for me.

During the process, I spent a lot of time adjusting the timing and sequence of the animations to make sure each key point was delivered clearly without overwhelming the audience. I also experimented with different motion effects to make the visuals more fluid and enhance the overall message.

This exercise helped me develop a better understanding of timing control and information delivery in animation. It also made me realize the unique power of animation in environmental awareness campaigns. I learned how to use motion design more effectively to tell a compelling story and highlight the importance of ocean protection.

  1. Not enough margin, remove the outlined whale in the design. Looks weird. Not sure why you include shark in the design
