week 2
This week, Mr. Martin gave us a brief introduction to the camera size and composition of the video. We watched some videos to observe their composition and lens size. In class, some lens sizes were introduced, and the following is a list of lens sizes.
Wide angle lens
Mid shot
Mid close-up shots
Over shoulder shot
Ultra wide angle lens
Medium wide angle lens
Close up shots
Extreme close-up shots
Camera angle is also an important factor in shooting videos
Rule of thirds
The facial modeling effect is best when the subject is rotated 45 degrees.
When shooting two or more surfaces, the 3D solid feeling is most pronounced.
Adjust the camera angle to reduce the parallel lines and preferably converge to the right.
The camera height is as important as the camera distance and angle, but it is often overlooked.
week 3
The three act structure is a classic narrative framework widely used in drama, novels, and movies. This structure divides the story into three main parts or "acts," each with its specific function and plot progression. The following is a detailed explanation of the three act structure:
Act 1: Introduction (Start)
Function: Introduce characters, set scenes, and lead out major conflicts
Start: The beginning of the story, introducing the main characters and the background of the story. The audience understands the time, location, and basic information of the main characters in the story.
Trigger Event: The event that triggers the main conflict in the story. This event changed the normal lives of the main characters, pushing them into new situations or adventures.
The first turning point: the first major challenge or decision faced by the protagonist. This event usually pushes the story towards the second act, adding tension and suspense.
Act 2: Confrontation (Development)
Function: Developing conflicts, complicating plot, deepening roles
Development: The protagonist faces a series of challenges and obstacles, gradually understanding the essence of conflict. The plot is gradually becoming more complex, and the relationships between the characters are becoming more tense.
Mid point: At critical moments in a story, the protagonist usually experiences a major victory or failure. This event puts the story into a higher state of tension and readjusts the character's goals or strategies.
The second turning point: a significant event that occurred near the end of the second act. This event pushes the story to the third act, usually the biggest challenge or crisis faced by the protagonist.
Act 3: Solving (climax and ending)
Function: Resolve conflicts, reveal the truth, and provide an outcome
Climax: the climax of a story, where the protagonist faces the final confrontation or decisive battle. All conflicts and suspense reach their peak at this moment.
Solution: The main conflict is resolved, and the main storyline of the story ends. The fate of the characters is revealed, and the core question of the story is answered.
Epilogue: The ending part of the story, showcasing the character's life situation after the story ends, providing a complete ending that may leave a lasting impression or trigger reflection.
The advantages of a three act structure
Clear storyline: helps the author maintain the coherence of the plot and the clarity of the structure.
Emotional ups and downs: By setting multiple turning points and climaxes, the dramatic and emotional impact of the story is enhanced.
Audience resonance: This structure aligns with the audience's narrative expectations, making it easier for them to immerse themselves in the story.
week 4
The process of film production is divided into three main stages: pre production, production, and post production.
Pre production: This is the planning stage of film production, where all necessary preparation work is completed before the start of filming. Tasks include writing scripts, creating storyboards, casting, finding shooting locations, designing scenery and costumes, and hiring staff. This stage lays the foundation for film production, ensuring a clear plan during actual filming.
Production: This is the actual stage of filming, where the production team implements the plans from the early stages of production and captures all the necessary shots for the movie. This stage may be challenging in terms of physics and logistics, as it involves coordinating a large group of people and managing complex schedules. Each member of the production team has specific roles and responsibilities to ensure the smooth progress of the project.
Post production: This is the stage of editing and assembling shooting materials into the final product. Tasks include cutting and arranging scenes, adding music and sound effects, color grading, and visual effects. Post production requires careful attention to details and a keen eye for storytelling, which is usually a time-consuming process.
The production team is composed of a group of professionals who work together to create movies or videos. Key production personnel include directors, producers, cinematographers, production designers, sound designers, and editors. Each member plays a crucial role in the creative process of the movie, ensuring that the final product meets the expected creative and technical standards. The director is responsible for supervising the entire production process, the producer is responsible for the logistics and finance of the production, the cinematographer is responsible for the visual aesthetics of the film, the production designer is responsible for the overall visual design, the sound designer is responsible for the audio, and the editor is responsible for combining the shots into a coherent story. Other important team members include lighting technicians, makeup artists, and stunt coordinators, who collectively contribute to the successful production of the movie.
TASK
Exercise 2
After that, we were asked to combine another videos of Doritos advertisement. A little bit different from exercise 1, the exercise 2 video clip is not according to the order, so I need to watch each of the videos and stitch them together into one.
WEEK2
Exercise 1
Shooting Exercise Framing
- Low-angle wide shot
- Frontal MCU (soft background)
- Frontal MS (soft background)
- Extreme close-up shot
- Side angle MS (soft background)
- 3/4 angling MCU shot (with blurry/soft background)
- CU shot
-Eye-level medium wide shot
Premiere Pro Editing Exercise 1
I used a cross dissolve video transition effect to make the character disappear.
Add phone prompt sound and BGM
FINAL
EXERCISE 1: The first task I learned was to create a new project, locate files, and combine video clips from Adobe Premiere Pro. This is a very simple task, and I quickly completed it.
EXERCISE 2:When doing Exercise 2, I need to watch videos and arrange them in order. Although the final result is very short, the time required to splice the videos is much longer than I imagined. Next time I work on this type of project, I should make a note for each video so that I can complete the work more quickly.
Shooting Exercise Framing:When shooting this assignment, I didn't do the composition well enough. Also, there was no good connection between each shot. This homework looks very simple, but it's only when I actually do it that I realize there are many things to pay attention to. More attention should be paid to lens size and composition. I also don't really like being filmed, which makes the video look awkward.
Premiere Pro Editing Exercise 1:I am not familiar with the functions of Premiere Pro yet when doing this assignment. I need to find a tutorial online to see how to complete it.
